Out of the mouths of babes

The other day I was frustrated about something and was animatedly telling Dave about something that had happened that day. Tate was sitting about 10 feet away from us and whispered something. I stopped talking to Dave and said "What, honey?" He softly said, "Mommy be nice to Daddy."

Tate has been into cooking lately. If I have something to make for dinner that involves mixing and not making something hot, I'll let him get on his stepstool and help. (By the way, thanks Jaci for the recommendation on the folding two step stepstool! One of the best things I've ever bought!) This past week he's had to get my blender, my mixer, and a mini crockpot out almost every day and set them on the counter so he can "cook". And it never fails, he's always making chili.

He also started telling me that things are his favorites. "This is my favorite Elmo chair. This is my favorite book. This is my favorite mixer." And in a sweet little 2 year old way, he mixes up his words. "I eat these all. I want to do this with my self." I usually chuckle because it's so darn cute and he looks at me like "Mom, I'm not trying to be funny." But he usually ends up laughing too.

I'm also trying to teach Tate about letters and sounding things out. There are certain letters that he can't say very well yet, but we work on them anyway. V is a hard letter and G is hard too. Earlier this week he was looking in one of the kitchen cupboards and he saw the griddle.

"What's that, Mommy?" - Tate

"It's the griddle. Daddy makes pancakes for Tate on the griddle." - Me

"No, Mommy, the grill is outside."

"No, honey, the guh-guh-grid-dle."

"Buh-buh-grill?"

"It starts with a G. Guh-guh-griddle."

"Yeah. Buh-buh-grill."
