Hawaii

When Dave decided to go back to school, we decided that we would take a trip to Maui when he was done. So, for three and a half years we thought about it and saved all our pennies. And finally, we went. It was great! Warm and toasty, with blue skies and a blue ocean. We went surfing - which is a lot harder than it looks - bodyboarding, snorkeling, shopping, hiking, etc.

Our first day we visited a blowhole, where water shot randomly out of a hole in the ground based on the ocean tide, waves, etc. This is a picture of Dave getting all Hawaii 5-0. He got sprayed rather nicely after this picture. :)

The next day we drove to the top of a volcano on the island. They say it isn't extinct, but it hasn't erupted since about 1790 (or so they think). It was pretty and it was cool because we were above the clouds. But to get to one of the craters (where hot lava once flowed out of) we had to hike an hour down into the crater and then an hour back up. I think my exact words when we got down there were "It's a large pit with rocks". I thought there would be an endless black hole leading down to the earth's crust or something cool like that.

It was pretty windy in the crater. Notice how the wind in my jacket makes me look like the Michelin Man.

We spent a different day driving three hours to the other side of the island, known to locals as "the road to Hana". There are numerous waterfalls on this drive. Gorgeous!

We walked though a forest made of bamboo. Very cool.

At the end of the bamboo forest trail was this 400 foot waterfall. Also very cool.

One of two rainbows we saw.

Sunset on the beach. Isn't Dave a great photographer?

Pumpkins

I'm backdating this post. I won't lie. I'd at least like to appear like I keep up with the blog. We have been to Hawaii and back, and are attempting to close on the house in Des Moines right now, so I will blame it on that. More on Hawaii to come.

We took Tate to a pumpkin patch a couple of weeks ago. He ran around (actually, walked fast in that toddler sort of way that makes it look like they're trying to run but they're so darn wobbly) touching all the pumpkins. Most of my pictures are of his back because he was always walking away from us. But I think he liked it.
Tate telling a story about the pumpkins. How much do I love those overalls?!
The "How Tall This Fall" sign. He is 2-1/2 feet tall.
Family Pic in front of the big scarecrow made of hay.
